I achieved only a Merit for my mixing process, therefore I asked to submit a re-sub. It had been a while since I'd last listened to my mixes, therefore, upon listening to them, I found it fairly straightforward to pick out at least some improvements that I could make.
For my first mix (non-creative) I thought that there was far too much reverb, therefore I re-adjusted it to a more subtle level. I then decided to further even out the effect by adding a new track and copying a clean version of the vocals across in order to keep the clarity of her voice.
For my second mix (creative) I thought that it would need some more work on the master mix as it sounded a little messy level wise, due to my creative use of EQ and reverb on the vocals. I noticed that the vocals needed reinforcement at some points, especially when the automated reverb comes in during certain phrases as the lyrics of the track could become somewhat lost in the mix. To resolve this, I added a second track with a clean version of the vocals on it and automated the volume so that it would be audible only when the reverb on the altered vocal track was on.
I then added a new track with a compressor on it and bussed the clean guitar and bass tracks through it. I did this in order to make them louder and more punchy as the track was very much dominated by the guitar and vocal parts. I then re-EQ'd the guitar part in order to let the sound of the guitarist tapping a beat on the body of the guitar to sound punchier and more prominent, giving the effect of a drum beat accompaniment and creating a better sense of rhythm overall.
After this I further adjusted the EQ and Compressor on the master mix to ensure that any changes I'd made were still balanced on the overall mix.
